
Sony Perron
Deputy Minister/President
Sony Perron was appointed Deputy Minister/President of Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) in September 2023.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Perron was President of Shared Services Canada (SSC), a position he held from April 2022, having previously been Senior Vice-President for this organization.
Mr. Perron started his career in the private sector, followed by a brief period at an academic research centre. He joined CED in 1997 and continued his career in the Government of Canada at the Treasury Board Secretariat and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
Mr. Perron then joined Health Canada. During his 15 years with the department, he held a variety of positions, including Director General, Non‑Insured Health Benefits Directorate, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Branch.
In 2020, Mr. Perron became Associate Deputy Minister at Indigenous Services Canada, after leading the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch at Health Canada for four years.
Mr. Perron holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from École nationale d’administration publique and a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning from Université du Québec à Montréal. He is married and a father of three children.
He also serves as the Deputy Minister Champion for Concordia University.
