Deputy Minister/President of CED

 Sony Perron, sous-ministre/président de Développement économique Canada pour les régions du Québec (DEC)

Mr. Perron has assumed the duties of Deputy Minister of Economic Development since May 6, 2024, in parallel with his role as Deputy Minister/President of Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), a position he has held since September 2023.

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Perron was President of Shared Services Canada (SSC), a position he held from April 2022, having previously been Senior Vice-President for this organization.

Mr. Perron started his career in the private sector, followed by a brief period at an academic research centre. He joined CED in 1997 and continued his career in the Government of Canada at the Treasury Board Secretariat and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.

Mr. Perron then joined Health Canada. During his 15 years with the department, he held a variety of positions, including Director General, Non‑Insured Health Benefits Directorate, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Branch.

In 2020, Mr. Perron became Associate Deputy Minister at Indigenous Services Canada, after leading the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch at Health Canada for four years.

Mr. Perron holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from École nationale d’administration publique (ENAP) and a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning from Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). 

Since February 22, 2024, he has been acting as the Deputy Minister Champion for the École de technologie supérieure (ETS), HEC Montréal, the ENAP, and Université TÉLUQ.

He is married and a father of three children.
